Dr Nicholas Little NHS and Private Psychologist

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with 20 years of experience working in the helping professions. I have previously worked in the NHS, academia and the charity sector and now specialise in private practice. I approach my clinical work from a compassionate perspective, mindful of how difficult it can be to speak openly about struggling. I aim to offer space that is open-minded, compassionate and gentle but also informative and compelling in helping you work towards change and inner resolve.

I am experienced in working with those who struggle with anxiety, depression, shame, self-criticism, low self-esteem, sexual health, perfectionism, bereavement, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, emotion dysregulation, obsessive compulsivity, family strain, trauma and abuse amongst other issues. I have a special interest in working with GSRD (Gender, Sex & Relationship Diversity), LGBTQ+ Communities, Gay Men, intersectionality and the ways in which minority stress causes us so much pain, fear, shame and isolation.

When working with you in therapy, I carefully balance focussing on the ways in which our past influences our present difficulties while still providing structured therapy to help you develop the practical tools needed to work through your current situation. I also work to help you develop a greater freedom to pursue a future in line with your personal values and goals. Throughout our work, I am mindful of our therapeutic relationship and aim to work collaboratively, knowing that this is a crucial factor in supporting you to make meaningful changes.

I practice integrative therapy, depending on what you need and prefer. Working flexibly, I rely on a combination of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also newly certified to provide EMDR for trauma as well as other struggles. In using these therapies, I aim to help my clients regulate intense emotions, manage distressing situations and enhance their interpersonal relationships all while maintaining a sense of safety and security.

I am originally from Canada and moved to the UK in 2009. I earned my doctorate degree from the University of Oxford. Before qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, I worked for many years as a social worker, researcher, and educator. I now work full time in private practice. Please feel free to get in touch if you feel like you need help in these areas.
