I believe there is real power in being witnessed. Therapy gives us a little space to step back and observe ourselves, often for the first time. Together we can untangle how our experiences across a lifetime have shaped the parts of us we carry now: our family of origin, our homes, the schools and systems we grew up in, our community, culture, faith and class.
I work with adults making sense of ADHD, whether you're wondering if it explains something, looking back over a lifetime with new eyes, or navigating assessment and what follows. I work affirmatively with LGBTQ+ clients, with a particular interest in where faith and queerness meet: reconciling the two, grieving a religious community, or holding both at once. I also welcome parents struggling to accept a child's identity, who want somewhere honest to work it through.
People come at other turning points too: the end of a relationship, a diagnosis, caring for an ageing parent, or grief that is complicated or ambiguous. A child leaving home, a foster child moving on, the losses of growing up in care, or an animal you were expected to get over quickly.
Much of the work is building a steadier sense of yourself, so no single part takes the wheel. We can name the voices inside us, including the critical one, the judgemental one, and the frightened one, and trace why they made sense at the time. We can also pay attention to what the body is telling us: a tight chest or a clenched jaw is often an early sign that something is out of alignment. From there, we can separate thoughts from feelings and notice how each shapes what we do and how we see the world and ourselves in it.
Therapy isn't only about looking back. Drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we can work out what genuinely matters to you. I practise integratively, drawing on Person-centred, Gestalt, CBT, Narrative approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with an understanding of intersectionality, cultural humility and minority stress. This sits within thirty years across a wide range of social care settings, seventeen of them centred on lived experience and the importance of creating safe creative spaces to tell our stories.
You can expect warmth, humour, and honest challenge where it's useful. I'm Irish and have made my home in Devon, online and in London.
